Butte College Veterans Services is holding its annual Veterans Day celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville, campus lawn. The college's Veterans Day celebration is a way to recognize and honor student veterans and the veteran community.
The ceremony will kick off with traditional events, including posting and retrieving colors by Butte College Law Enforcement Academy cadets led by Cadet Steven Weightman and the national anthem sung by Butte College student Natalie Basurtovenegas. Butte College student and veteran Isais Marrufo will moderate the formal program featuring a keynote speech by Army veteran Mike Hedrick. Hedrick will share his perspective as a Native American Veteran. Veterans Services and the Native American Center will host a joint panel discussion for Native American veterans on Thursday, Nov. 10.
"We are excited to collaborate with the Butte College Native American Center for this year's events," said Dan Torres, Butte College Veterans Service certifying official.
Several veterans organizations will be at the event providing resources and information including Veterans Garden Project, Butte County Veterans Services Office, Vectors, NCVA Health Services, and CALVET. Vintage and current military vehicles will be on display courtesy of the American Military Museum, Chico National Guard, Rick Farley, and Mike and Julie Boss.
Butte College is proud to serve more than 300 student veterans and veteran spouses annually and to be able to celebrate them with our annual Veterans Day programming. The college will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
